A. Beaupré Vélo & Ski has been an idea for some time, and now I am excited to be able to provide bike and ski services to my little community of Ste. Geneviève and surrounding areas.
My love for bicycles began at a very young age. I enjoyed many sports as a kid, but nothing compared to the joy and freedom of a bike. Summer at home was biking; whether it was making plywood jumps, a track in the backfield, or cruising down the gravel roads to call on friends or to bike to school. My love for bikes continued into my adult life. Moving to the city while I was in University my fixie became my one and only means of transportation, year round. This lead to having to maintain and care for my bike: cleaning the chain, fixing broken spokes, rebuilding wheels, repacking bearings, etc.. I found a deeper understanding and appreciation for bikes at this point, and was truly convinced of their ability to be a viable and enjoyable means of transportation. Such a simple and elegant machine that can bring you anywhere. Moving back to the area changed my bike needs and I rebuilt my fixie frame into a tout terrain, go anywhere (comfortably) bike. Now you can find me towing a trailer (kid or cargo) around the yard, down the gravel roads, or on some obscure forestry road.
During the winter months snowboarding was always my go to, and snowboarding for me doesn’t exist without my friend Andre. My younger years were spent getting towed behind an old truck, making features out of old fridges, and a yearly trip out west trying to find that powder that Montana treated us with that one time. Chasing fresh powder and bombing down the hill was exhilarating. As I grew I recognized the importance of a well waxed and tuned board. However, I was also having to drive to the city to have my board waxed. Not ideal. Soon Andre and I, armed with an old travel iron and some knowledge, learned how to wax and tune boards.
Not long after meeting my wife she introduced me to cross country skiing. I never understood why she loved it so much. No downhills? No carving? A love for another snow sport was born shortly after learning some technique, and realizing skiing was less effort than snowshoeing, and could get you long distances over snow. The groomed trails were wonderful but I soon discovered backcountry cross-country skiing. Making my own trails, exploring frozen lakes and frosty forest, and camping in the winter were another experience on their own. Oh, and now if I want that downhill feel I hitch up our “dingo” and go for a skijore, turning the prairies into a spicy run. And with all this, once again, I dove into caring for our cross-country skis. There’s something to be said for that perfect glide.
I want to be able to provide the best service for your skis, bikes, and boards, so you can continue to enjoy your adventures.
